The Toda buffalo unique breed among Indian buffalo varieties, representing a genetically isolated population situated in the Nilgiri hills of Tamil Nadu.

Majorly reared by the Toda tribes of Nilgiris, Tamilnadu, one of the most indigenous communities in the country, these buffaloes hold a unique position.

At present, the population of Toda buffalos is less than 1500 in this region.
